Why watch films from other countries? Particularly ones
in other languages? The British Film Institute invites
families to participate in an interactive session which
gives children and parents tools to think critically about
films and engage in "active viewing". Many foreign
language films for family audiences can appear intimidating
and this session uses short films to provide an introduction
to viewing and thinking about more challenging cinema.
Some short films from Sweden, such as Little Pig is
Flying and Ballerina Frog, will be screened
in this workshop about visual storytelling and used in
a conversation where the children are encouraged to talk
about and interpret them.
